"Wow! What a great new eatery in MTWC. Made it home yesterday, stopped in for a Polish and a Green River, and had to order more Dawgs and Chili to go. Congrats and thanks for bringing Dr. Dawg to us."

David,

Ran across the article on TradeOnly regarding your hot dawg business... Congratulations!  I always thought that Manitowoc needed a good Chicago dog stand.  If only there was one when I was there, I might never have left.  AND... I bet this is a lot less stressful than building boats.

I'll stop by to grab a dawg next time I'm in town.  Lot's of luck!

Our good friend and staunch dawg supporter, Joe Graff (pictured in Dawg Bytes) had a major accident on his Moped last Wednesday.  Joe sustained severe injuries, but we are pleased to announce that he has been released from the hospital (on his own recognizance) this past weekend!

We were planning to send over a couple of dawgs and Polish sausages, but since he was on a strict liquid diet, we felt the food probably would lose a bit of the appeal if it was pureed.

Joe, we all wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you at the dawg wagon soon.

All our best,

David Ross
DR. DAWG

When we left the Chicago area in the mid-nineties for the Milwaukee burbs, I started my search for a good Wisconsin hot dog. I asked my neighbors and co-workers who had the best dogs. They didn't know because they thought hot dogs were just something on the kids menu. After tasting the local fare, I soon realized why none of them really cared for dogs.

I'm forced to sneak in a stop at Portillos or Gene & Judes on my return trips to visit family. They can't understand why I always want pizza, Italian beef, and hot dogs. You don't know what you've got until it's gone.

It was on Sunday when I noticed the ad in the paper for the Cruise night. Is that a Vienna Beef logo that I see? I googled Dr. Dawg, and printed out the pages. I told my wife, "We're headed to the farmers market on Tuesday to get a hot dog."

The dog hit the spot. I'll be back for more. Thanks Dr. Dawg!

David,

More years ago than I care to remember, when I was a young adult working in downtown Chicago, there was a small storefront Vienna hot dog take-out shop in the Loop. It was run by a former reputedly top gun lawyer who simply walked out of his practice one day and opened the shop. Every day he worked the counter himself, and the line of waiting customers at lunch time ran out the door, down the block, and around the corner onto, I think, State Street.

Anyway, the Vienna hot dogs with raw onions, sweet pickle relish, mustard (and a bit of ketchup, for me, as well) were heavenly. The ex-lawyer was the happiest guy I ever met. He shmoozed with everyone, made a good buck, and each night left work with a clear, untroubled mind.

It's been more than 40 years since I had a hot dog at that shop; and I have no idea what eventually happened to the owner. But I've always felt there was a lesson to be learned there.

David, best wishes on your new and latest venture. May you find at least as much success and happiness in hot dogs as the fellow who stands out so clearly in my memory.

Best regards,

Phil Friedman

Don't know you, but am impressed with your venture. Us boys that are south of the Mason- Dixon line use cole slaw also. Never ketchup.

Best regards.

Dear David,

Saw a copy of the newspaper article Lisa Knapp sent around on Dr. Dawg and could not help thinking these will probably be some of the happiest years in your life. I'll bet it is fun to get up in the morning and see your new group of clients. Building a custom Dawg is probably more satisfying than building a custom yacht. Better clientele!!

To your health and happiness.

Hi David,

O.K....I am no connoisseur of Chicago dogs, but I know what I like. Two weeks ago I was driving through Eagle River WI and came across a Vienna Beef Chicago Dog stand. I couldn't believe my luck so of course stopped to get one with the works...at 10:30 in the morning. Suffice it to say I am excited about your new business and look forward to one of your dawgs.

Congrats and best of luck with your new venture.

This is totally not fare. I am from Chicago and truly miss my Chicago dogs. I went into Trade Only Today and read your article. So I am stuck down here in South Florida reading about famous Chicago dogs. You need to find a way to ship down here. Lol
I am sure you will do very well. Good luck

Hey, we just want to say a BIG THANKS to everyone who stopped by "Da Wagon" at the Farmer's Market this past Saturday.  Kristin, Katie, Emma ("Da Puppies") and I really appreciate your business and support.  Most of all, we really, really hope you enjoyed the dawgs.

We also want to make sure everyone knows that we won't be at the Farmer's Market on Saturday, June 6th because we're movin' our "Dawg and Polish Show" to the Manitowoc County Air Show for that weekend.  We'll be back at the Market on June 13th.

We really aim to please with our dawgs and our service.  So, if you would kindly email us your feedback, whether it's good, bad, funny or whatever, we'll post 'em on this blog (the good and funny ones, of course).

Hope to see ya back, soon!

Thanks, again very, very much,

Dr Dawg
